M.A., C. Psych. Autonomous Practice.
English/French individual psychotherapy for adolescents and adults.
About
I am a Clinical Psychologist with a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Integrative Psychopathology from the University of Paris Descartes, France, achieved in 2017. My academic journey also includes a year of study at the University of Montreal during my undergraduate years. Fluent in both French and English, I am licensed to practice in France, Quebec and Ontario.
Throughout my professional path, I have been dedicated to understanding and assisting individuals in their unique journeys. My diverse experiences span private practice and public hospital settings, where I have engaged with adult psychiatry and pedopsychiatry. This has allowed me to closely collaborate with children, adolescents, and families navigating various forms of distress.
My approach
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is an approach based on the exploration of the subject's history and their unconscious in order to bring relief from their distress. Clients seek this form of therapy for a variety of reasons, often to overcome challenging emotions, behaviors, thoughts, or relationship issues.
At the heart of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy lies the potential for profound and lasting change. These therapies delve into the underlying causes of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, targeting the “How” and “Why”.
Research grounded in evidence underscores the efficacy of psychoanalytically oriented therapy, particularly for those grappling with persistent difficulties like anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.
Central to my approach is a mindful and empathetic style of listening. Within our sessions, you'll be encouraged to engage in free association, a process of unrestricted self-expression. This collaborative exploration of your life history opens avenues to explore often overlooked or unconscious facets of your experiences, which might underlie the distress leading you to therapy.
My approach strives to provide the space for discussing what was previously unspoken, fostering insight, transformative change, and relief from symptoms. In our work together, we will understand your unique narrative and how it impacts your daily life.
Individual therapy for adults
Individual adult therapy involves 50-minute sessions, usually on a weekly schedule. The process generally goes as follows :
1. 15-Minute Phone Consultation :
Initially, we'll have a brief 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and determine if my approach aligns with your goals.
2. Assessment stage :
After the phone consultation, we can schedule up to three sessions.
These sessions will further assess if your therapeutic needs can be met through my approach and to ensure you feel comfortable working with me.
3. Ongoing Therapy :
In these sessions, I offer support to aid your introspection and exploration, providing insights that contribute to a deeper understanding of yourself. Sessions will be tailored to your unique needs. While I encourage free association, I can also employ alternative methods, such as writing or drawing, if they better suit your preferences.
Individual therapy for adolescents
Individual adolescent therapy, inspired by the adult model of 50-minute weekly sessions, is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs and age-appropriateness of youth. The process generally goes as follows :
1. 15-Minute Phone Call :
To initiate the process, adolescents are encouraged, regardless of their age, to participate in a brief 15-minute phone consultation, ensuring that their voice is heard from the very beginning.
2. Assessment Stage :
Following the phone consultation, we enter the assessment stage.
Here, we'll work together to determine if the therapeutic journey aligns with the adolescent's needs and preferences.
3. Ongoing Therapy :
Once we establish a connection, we proceed to therapy sessions.
In-person sessions are prioritized to create a private and personalized space where adolescents can openly express themselves. Various techniques may be incorporated, including drawing, to facilitate expression and introspection.
4. Parental Involvement :
Depending on the adolescent's age and unique circumstances, parental involvement can be discussed during both the assessment and therapy stages.
This discussion always respects the adolescent's wishes and needs, ensuring a collaborative approach to their well-being.
In-person and remote sessions.
My office is conveniently located in St Lawrence neighbourhood, Downtown Toronto, for in-person sessions.
Remote options by videoconference or by phone are also available. Together, we'll determine the best approach for your individual requirements.
